Student's t-Table Generator
Student's t-Table Generator
Generate a customized table of Student's t values.
Instructions
- This tool generates a table of Student's t values at a critical p-value, pcritic = α, and up to a maximum number of degrees of freedom, υmax.
- Just submit a pair of pcritic and υmax values.
- The tool comes handy when you don't have statistical t-tables around or are working with p and t values, or degrees of freedom, not available from such tables. Avoid pausing a problem for annoying linear interpolation workarounds!
What is computed?
-
The tool computes a table of Student's t values (Wikipedia, 2017) from a pair of user-defined pcritic and vmax values.
- That is done by iteratively calling (i.e., looping) the very same algorithm that we use for our t-values Calculator.
Who can use this tool?
- Anyone that need to compute t-values for t-test hypothesis testing.
Suggested Exercises
-
A math teacher hypothesizes that students who are allowed to play chess two hours daily will not score significantly lower than students allowed to play chess for four hours on a trigonometry quiz. He randomly assigns 20 students to one of two groups. In one group he has students to play for two hours and in the other group he has them play four. An hour later he gives them a 10-point quiz. Group results are given below:
2-hour Group: 6, 7, 8, 3, 2, 6, 7, 1, 9, 4
4-hour Group: 6, 6, 8, 8, 2, 5, 3, 9, 7, 4
- What is the null hypothesis, H0?
- Can he reject H0 at the 95% confidence level? Why?
Hint: Compute first the mean and variance from both groups.
